We are spending 5 nights in the Banff park campground, very convenient and full hook-ups ! sadly the wildfires in B.C are causing a great of smoke in Alberta as well and for the second year in a row the visibility is greatly reduced in August and Sept. /Note: consider May/June or late Sept. to visit.
WE LOVE IT HERE. The scenery surrounds us and the town is charming.
We drove to Lake Louise our first day and at 10am all the parking lots were full and we went back to an overflow lot where park shuttles bring you to the lake, free of charge. We found that quite pleasant and managed to have a glass of champagne in the Fairmont Chateau Hotel! We then stopped along the Bow River Highway to view the Johnston Canyon after the crowds had left about 5 pm.
arriving back at the tunnel mountain campground to see Elk close by. Today's adventure was a 9 hr. Bus tour that gave us a bigger view and gave John a chance to look out the windows more! We took a gondola to the lunch location, sadly the smoke made it difficult to really enjoy 100%. We did see a grizzly bear though and lots of mountain bike riders using the ski slopes and chairlifts!
Good weather, just hazy with smoke. We would really like to return, this is a very special spot on our earth.
